Description

Waterson's Printing Works, located on Warriston Road in Edinburgh, was designed by John Breingan in 1902. This three-storey building has a rectangular plan measuring 14 by 4 bays and features Renaissance detailing. It is constructed from red sandstone ashlar, with brick used on the rear. The design includes a base course, a slightly advanced ground floor, a cornice, and a parapet adorned with round-headed pierced panels that divide the bays. The windows have timber mullions and transoms.

On the northwest (principal) elevation, the entrance is located in the first bay and features a tall blind fanlight above it. There is a recessed goods entrance in the tenth bay, a round-arched keystoned window to the outer right, and three-light windows in the remaining bays, with regular fenestration above.

The northeast (Logie Green Road) elevation showcases round-arched keystoned bays at the ground level, with two narrow windows on each floor at the bowed corner bay. The central doorpiece is fluted-Ionic, with pilasters and a dentil cornice, and has carved spandrels that read 'INSt 1752, AEDt 1902'. Flanking windows include stone-mullioned bipartites to the left and tripartites to the right. The upper floors have regular fenestration, with two-light windows to the left and three-light windows to the right. There is also a two-storey, 18-bay addition to the right, built in 1948, featuring windows at the ground and regular fenestration above.

The southwest (side) elevation has bipartites on each floor at the bowed corner bay, a two-light window in the second bay at ground level, and a single-storey modern garage extension to the left. The upper floors maintain regular fenestration with three-light windows to the left.

The southeast (rear) elevation has seen extensive additions and alterations. The interior was not seen in 1998, but it features fixed timber windows with tilt and turn top-lights and multi-pane glazing.
