Description

Robert Brown, 1829; much altered and extended by George Washington Browne, 1905. 4-storey and later attic 8-bay plain classical office block, converted from Burgher Church. Polished cream sandstone ashlar. Segmental-headed windows at ground, round-headed at 2nd floor. Paired pilasters frame W bay and 2 E bays (right bay later); cornices above 2nd and 3rd floors, with solid parapet and mansard roof with corniced bipartite timber dormers. Arched doors to inner right and left bays.

4-bay pilastered rendered return to E with raised ashlar attic at centre.

Stugged ashlar W return with 2 bays at centre and segmental-pedimented 3-bay polished ashlar raised attic at centre.

Plain rear elevation with 2 massive loading bays inserted.

Plate glass timber sash and case windows. Mansard roof, grey slates.

INTERIOR: not seen 1995.
