Description
1 and 2 Millerfield Place is a terrace of eight two-storey, two-bay villas built in 1864, featuring a three-storey and basement corner tenement pavilion block at the north corner. This terrace forms one side of a dead-end street. The principal elevations are made of droved ashlar, while the rear is constructed from squared and snecked sandstone rubble. The buildings prominently display full-height three-light canted bays. The entrance doors are framed by pilastered and round-arched architraves, with a cornice that extends to create a band course at the first-floor level. The windows have projecting cills supported by plain brackets and are surrounded by plain mouldings. A continuous decorative stone balustraded parapet runs along the entire length of the terrace.
The entrance doors are made of four panels and are timber. The windows predominantly feature four-pane glazing in timber sash and case style, although some have been replaced with non-traditional options. The roofs are slate, topped with corniced stone ridge stacks.
Most houses have low boundary walls with coping facing the street, and houses numbered 1, 2, and 6 include entrance steps and railings.
The interior of one of the terraced houses, observed in 2014, showcased a contemporary decorative scheme in a classical style, featuring ornate plaster cornicing and a turned stone stair with decorative cast iron balusters and a timber handrail. The entrance lobbies had geometric floor tiles, and there were arched openings leading to the inner hall. Some principal rooms included marble fire surrounds and four-panel timber doors.
