20 East Claremont Street, Edinburgh

8 East Claremont Street in Edinburgh is a classical terrace of houses built between 1860 and 1869 by John Chesser. This two-storey building features 39 bays, with Nos 2-6 forming a bowed corner that continues the design of Bellevue Place. The exterior is made of sandstone ashlar and includes architraved margins, a base course, bracketed cills at the ground floor, a cill band at the first floor, an eaves cornice parapet, and a blocking course. The windows have tall, narrow proportions, with the first-floor windows being taller.

On the principal (west) elevation, there are timber panelled doors with fanlights in architraved entrances located in bays 3, 4, 9, 12, 15, 18, 21, 24, 25, 30, 34, and 37. The remaining bays feature regular fenestration above, and there is a bipartite box dormer at No 18. The windows are timber sash and case with 4-pane glazing, and the roof is covered with grey slates, featuring ashlar ridge stacks with terracotta cans, rooflights, and non-continuous cast-iron railings.

The interior was not seen in 1998. The site is enclosed by low coped ashlar boundary walls.
