Description

8 Rosebery Crescent in Edinburgh is a terrace of three, three-storey houses with basements, built in the later 19th century by John Chesser. The houses feature a plain classical style with two bays and three-light canted bays. They are constructed from polished, coursed sandstone ashlar, with a droved finish at the basement. Number 6 is slightly advanced compared to the others. Architectural details include a base course, a cill course on the first and second floors, and a corniced doorpiece with abbreviated pilasters flanking a margin-framed doorway, topped with a cornice and blocking course.

The west elevation features a part-glazed door and fanlight at the center of each house in the basement, with a window to the right and lights on each face of the canted bay to the left on all floors. Each house has part-glazed timber doors with rectangular fanlights, with astragals on number 7, at the ground level of the bay to the right, and a single window on the floors above.

The windows are four-pane timber sash and case. The roof is concealed, with coped mutual stacks, mostly featuring tall cans, and an ashlar wallhead stack at number 6. The houses also have cast-iron rainwater goods. Fleur-de-lys iron railings are present at the oversailing entrance platts and set in the coping along the street.
