Description
The National Monument on Calton Hill in Edinburgh is an unfinished temple designed by C.R. Cockerell and W. H. Playfair, constructed between 1826 and 1829. It is modeled after the Parthenon and features an octastyle Greek Doric colonnade, which includes two return columns on either side. The building is made from polished Craigleith ashlar, with squared snecked rubble used for the substructure. This substructure supports a three-step stylobate, and the fluted columns uphold an architrave adorned with guttae at the top.
