Description
145 Colinton Road in Edinburgh is a terrace of ten two-storey, two-bay houses designed by Alfred Greig between 1899 and 1905. The houses are constructed from coursed and squared rubble with cream sandstone dressings and feature rounded reveals.
The northwest elevation facing Colinton Road shows a mirrored arrangement every two houses, with panelled entrance doors located in the centre bays. These doors are topped by a deep corniced and consoled timber canopy, flanked by narrow leaded sidelights. Above, there is a single window on the first floor, and each outer bay has a two-storey canted window made of ashlar, complete with a cornice and blocking course.
The northeast and southwest elevations include a gable with an apex chimney on the front elevation, while the rear elevation features two single windows.
On the southeast (rear) elevation, there are single-storey paired outbuildings with a rear door in the return. Each bay and floor has single windows, with two ground floor bays featuring French doors. The windows throughout the property are timber sash and case, with six-pane upper sashes and plate glass lower sashes on the front and sides, and twelve-pane windows at the rear. The roofs consist of a steep green slate roof at the front, a slate roof at a right angle to the rear of the end terrace, and flat-roofed rear bays in the centre of the terrace, along with red ridge tiles, mutual and apex stacks, skew blocks, and a moulded eaves gutter. The interior was not seen in 1992.
The front of the property is enclosed by a low rubble boundary wall, complemented by decorative cast-iron gates.
