Description

11 Lennox Row in Edinburgh is a two-storey asymmetrical house designed by John Dick Peddie in 1877. The building has been subdivided and features a three-stage tower along with a lower two-storey gabled wing to the east, which is now a separate house. It is constructed from bull-faced sandstone with ashlar dressings, showcasing a base course and a dividing band between the ground and first floors. The façade includes long and short quoins, stop-chamfered window surrounds with projecting cills supported on consoles, and bracketed overhanging eaves.

On the west elevation facing Lomond Road, there is an advanced bay to the right that features a two-storey three-light canted window, which is corbelled out to form a square at the gable. A rectangular stone panel is located in the gable. The tower is positioned at the re-entrant angle, with stop-chamfered surrounds to the ground floor windows on the north and west sides, round-arched windows on the first floor, and three-light round-arched windows on the second floor. The tower is topped with a conical slated roof that has a finial and weathervane. The left side of this elevation has a regularly fenestrated bay.

On the north elevation facing Lennox Row, there is again an advanced bay to the right, featuring a stone-mullioned three-light window at the ground level, a two-light window on the first floor, and a rectangular stone panel in the gable. The two-bay section to the left is regularly fenestrated, with an entrance in the left bay that includes a timber-panelled door with a plate glass fanlight set in a stop-chamfered surround. The lower two-storey wing to the left has a timber-panelled door in a stop-chamfered surround to the right, a window to the left at ground level, and two asymmetrically placed windows on the first floor.

The windows are timber sash and case with plate glass, and the roof is covered with grey slates. The building features corniced ashlar stacks with decorative circular cans.
