108 Polwarth Terrace, Edinburgh

110 Polwarth Terrace in Edinburgh is a pair of semi-detached houses built in 1901, likely by Edward Calvert. These two-storey, four-bay homes have a rectangular plan with rear projections. They are constructed from yellow squared and coursed rubble, featuring red ashlar dressings and raised quoins.

The front elevations are mirrored around the center, showcasing red ashlar bays. Each house has a pair of panelled doors flanked by narrow sidelights and topped with a rectangular plate glass fanlight. Above the doors are ashlar mullioned bipartite windows. The outer bays are slightly advanced and feature shaped Dutch gables with water-spout finials. The two-storey canted windows in the outer bays have a 1-2-1 configuration, scalloped parapets, and carved aprons, with small windows above.

The rear elevations each have one window per bay on both the ground and first floors, with a square mansard-roofed projection that is a modern addition to No 108.

On the southwest elevations, there are windows on each floor at the center, with a wallhead stack linked to the roof that is scrolled at the base above. To the left, there is a single window on the first floor, and to the right, a box dormer features timber bipartite windows with cornices and carved aprons.

The northeast elevations mirror the southwest elevations. The houses have timber sash and case windows, with plate glass glazing at the front and four-pane glazing at the rear and sides. The roof is covered with Scottish slate and includes two wallhead stacks, as well as one party wall stack at the rear flanked by plain box dormers with timber mullioned bipartite windows.

The front of the property is enclosed by a low rubble boundary wall and fence, with cast-iron gates remaining at No 104 and partially at No 106.
