Description
14 Hermitage Place is a classical villa built around 1805, featuring two storeys, five bays, a raised basement, and an attic. There is a modern single-storey extension projecting to the southwest. The front of the building is finished in polished ashlar sandstone, while the basement is droved, and the sides and rear are constructed from squared and snecked rubble. The villa has a base course, an eaves cornice, and a blocking course with a tablet at the centre. The ground floor windows are architraved and corniced, and rusticated quoins add to the architectural detail.
The northwest elevation is symmetrical, showcasing a wide round-arched doorway framed by an Ionic columned doorpiece with an entablature and a plate glass semicircular fanlight. The windows on the ground and first floors are regularly spaced, with basement windows below. There are two dormers located between the first and second bays and the fourth and fifth bays.
The southwest and northeast elevations feature blank gable walls. The southeast elevation is asymmetrical, with a door and modern steps at the outer left bay, an opening in the centre bay, and two openings to the right of centre. There are three regularly spaced windows on the first floor, and the outer bays have remodelled box dormers, with a skylight in the centre and a door to the basement located to the right of centre.
All principal windows are plate glass timber sash and case, with a tripartite sash and case window in the front left dormer and modern glazing in the remaining dormers. The roof is covered in grey slate with piended sections and ashlar coped skews, featuring slate-hung and piended dormers. The wallhead stacks include a corniced ashlar stack on the left and a truncated stack on the right.
The boundary wall is made of stugged ashlar with coping, complemented by modern railings and oversailing steps.
