Description
1-3 Bolgam Street is a late 18th century tenement building that stands three storeys tall with an attic and features six bays on its main façade. It is located on a corner site, with a three-bay, three-storey wing extending to the rear along Bolgam Street. The southeast elevation facing Main Street is smooth cement-rendered, lined, and painted, while the northeast elevation along Bolgam Street has roughcast upper floors.
On the southeast elevation, the ground floor has a shopfront with stone stall risers and mullions. There is a shop door located in the second bay with a window to its left, and another shop door between the fourth and fifth bays, flanked by windows. The upper floors are symmetrical, featuring a regular arrangement of windows grouped in sets of two across the three bays.
The northeast elevation has a gable end with windows on each floor towards the outer right, including a square shop window at ground level. The three-bay wing to the right has closely spaced entrance doors in the first bay, with wide openings in the second and third bays.
The ground floor features plate glass fixed-light shop windows, while the first and second floors have plate glass timber sash and case windows. The entrance doors on Bolgam Street are two-leaf, four-panel timber doors with a rectangular plate glass fanlight above. The building has a grey slate roof, with three later piend-roofed, slate-hung timber canted dormers on the Main Street pitch, each fitted with plate glass timber sash and case windows. There are cast-iron downpipes, a roughcast apex stack at the northeast gable, and a brick apex stack at the northwest gable.
