Description

32 Mount Pleasant Road in Rothesay, Bute, is a mid-19th century set of three single-storey houses with a basement and attic, forming a near-symmetrical six-bay terrace. The houses are constructed of whitewashed coursed rubble sandstone with raised, painted dressings. Notable architectural features include a band course at the principal floor, a raised lintel course beneath the corniced eaves, and a blocking course. The buildings have pilastered quoins, raised margins, and balustraded details beneath the projecting cills, along with stylised pediments above the pilastered doorpieces. The windows at the basement are segmental-arched with projecting cills.

The entrance elevation features steps that oversail the basement leading to a paired entrance offset to the right of centre for Nos 30 and 32. This entrance has timber panelled doors and 6-light fanlights, surrounded by a doorpiece with flanking pilasters, dentil detailing beneath a plain frieze, a cornice, and stylised pediments. There are single windows at the basement and ground floors in the flanking bays, with 3-light canted dormers above. Additionally, there are steps leading to a timber panelled door at ground level in the penultimate bay to the outer left for No 34, which also features a 6-light fanlight and a similar doorpiece. The outer left bay has single windows at the basement and ground floors, with a 3-light canted dormer above.

The houses have replacement glazing and rooflights, with a graded grey slate roof featuring raised stone skews, stop-chamfered ridge and apex stacks, and missing octagonal flues to the south. The interiors were not seen in 1996.

The boundary wall consists of a low coped rendered wall along Mount Pleasant Road, with square-plan gatepiers flanking the pedestrian entrances, topped with pyramidal caps.
