Description
The Old Parish Church in Kirriemuir was designed by James Playfair and built between 1786 and 1788. It has a rectangular plan and is constructed from red rough ashlar stone. The church features a two-storey design with arched windows at the upper level, which still have their original glazing. There are seven windows along the side, with the end bays being advanced. The west gable has five windows, and the end bays are also advanced. The church includes a two-stage clock tower topped with a simple octagonal spire, and it has a slated roof.
Inside, there is an interesting galleried space featuring slim superimposed Doric orders and a segmental ceiling. The church was reseated by John Carver in 1873, with further alterations made later on. A hall was added in 1904.
