Royal Hotel, 129 High Street, Arbroath

131-133 High Street in Arbroath is a well-detailed, mid 19th century, three-storey and attic, seven-bay terraced building that was formerly a hotel. It features alternating consoled triangular and segmental pediments above the first-floor windows, a central linked wallhead stack, and two early shop fronts with a modern entrance to a bingo hall, likely altered by Gordon and Scrymegour of Dundee in 1930. The building is constructed of painted ashlar with quoin strips and raised margins.

The ground floor has a cornice over the shops, with cill courses on the first and second floors. The first floor is adorned with narrow panelled aprons, while the second floor has a bracketed, dentilled eaves cornice. The entrance to the bingo hall is broad and located to the left at ground level, with a closely aligned pair of two-bay shops to the right. The first and second floors display regular fenestration, and the central stack is flanked by set-back canted dormer windows.

The windows are timber sash and case with a four-pane glazing pattern, and the roof is covered with grey slates. The ashlar stacks are coped and feature some chimney cans.
