Description
Buchan House, formerly the manse of Strichen, was designed by Thomas Mackenzie of Mackenzie and Matthews in 1853. This Italian villa features an L-plan layout with a porch in the re-entrant angle. The front includes a shallow rectangular tripartite bay with three round-arched windows above, set in an advanced gable. There is a canted bay on the west gable, along with a back wing and a low two-storey east wing. The building is harled, with granite margins and dressings, and has low-pitched, broad-eaved roofs.
