Description
Home Farm Steading, located on the Elrick estate near Newmachar, dates from the 18th and 19th centuries, with some later additions. This U-plan agricultural steading features buildings primarily made of coursed and squared, harl-pointed rubble, with tooled granite stonework around the openings. The east and west ranges are single-storey, while the north range is slightly taller, featuring hayloft openings at the eaves level and large, lintelled cartshed openings.
At the western end of the north range, there is a house that includes a piended dormer window breaking the roof eaves to the left and a small square window below the eaves to the right. Some window openings have timber sash and case frames, while others have no glazing. The roofs have straight skews and are covered with a mix of slates and corrugated asbestos roofing. A coped end chimneystack is located to the left of the former accommodation.
The steading is arranged around a courtyard, which is divided to the south by a low, stone-built wall with a central gateway.
