Description

Dated 1885, this single-span bridge crosses Craigston Burn and serves as an access point to Craigston Castle. The bridge is constructed in a Baronial style, using locally sourced, tooled red sandstone with polished ashlar dressings. It features an elliptical arch ring built with bull-faced voussoirs, culminating in a prominent keystone. A stepped crenellated parapet runs along the bridge's length, flanked by semi-circular buttresses at each end, also crenellated and incorporating small refuges. A monogram incorporating the initials "PU" is present on the east face, and a date marks the west face. The approximate span of the bridge is 7.00 metres.

The bridge's construction coincided with the creation of a new driveway to Craigston Castle, also in 1885. The monogram "PU" references Pollard Urquhart, the owner of Craigston Castle at the time. The Craigston Burn acts as the boundary between the castle estate and Turriff Parish.

References include publications by H Gordon Slade detailing Craigston Castle and its gardens.
