Description
The Walled Garden at Aden Country Park dates from 1766 but was likely rebuilt in the early to mid-19th century. It is a fine rectangular-plan walled garden located at the center of the Aden estate, near a semicircular steading. The garden features a piend-roofed bothy, a potting shed, and a gardener's cottage. It is constructed of random rubble with squared quoins, irregular rubble coping, and segmental-headed openings. A carved stone above the coping on the north side reads '17 M F WATT 66'.
The bothy is a single-storey and attic structure with three bays, positioned at the northwest corner of the garden. It has a boarded timber door at the center, flanked by windows in the side bays, and a high wallhead above. The slated roof includes a small traditional rooflight, and the timber sash and case windows feature an 8-pane glazing pattern. There is a wallhead stack on the west side. Inside, the bothy is timber-lined and includes a narrow winding timber staircase and an open fire.
The potting shed is a long, low rubble lean-to structure that adjoins the outer elevation of the northern garden wall and connects to the bothy on the west side.
The head gardener's house is a single-storey, three-bay, gabled building located at the northwest corner of the garden wall.
