Description
The former tram shelter and public lavatory at 662 Holburn Street in Aberdeen dates from the early 20th century. It is a single-storey building with a curved plan, featuring three bays. The structure is built from squared rough-faced coursed grey granite, which is finely finished at the margins, and includes a base course and overhanging eaves.
On the south elevation, the design is symmetrical, with a modern two-leaf panelled and glazed timber door at the center, accessed by two stone steps. Above the door is a decorative geometric fanlight. To the left and right of the door are plate glass windows, each with a geometric glazing pattern in the top hoppers. A large timber shop sign is positioned above the eaves. The entrances to the former lavatories, now blocked up, are located on the shallow angled walls at the outer right and left, with signs reading "GENTLEMEN" on the right and "LADIES" on the left. At the center of the ridge above, there is an octagonal lead clock tower and ventilator.
The east elevation is near-symmetrical, featuring three regularly spaced single-pane windows. The north and west elevations were not visible in 1999.
The building predominantly has timber-framed windows and a piended grey slate roof with lead ridges, along with cast-iron rainwater goods. The interior has been converted to a shop, but it was not seen in 1999.
