Description
12 and 14 Crown Street in Aberdeen is a tall four-storey and attic commercial and tenement block designed by George Coutts in 1901, featuring Dutch Renaissance detailing. The building has three bays and is constructed from granite, with channelled outer pilasters on the ground floor. The ground level includes modern shops and a central round-arched doorway that is key-blocked and pilastered, topped with an open pediment supported by consoles. The inner narrow bay is flanked by pilaster strips, while the outer bays feature three-storey shallow canted windows. Above these, there is a main cornice and a balustraded parapet. The outer bays have stepped and consoled gables, which are adorned with lunettes and crowning segmental pediments and finials. Additionally, there is a small pilastered arched dormer in the center, which is segmentally pedimented. The building has end stacks and a slate roof.
