Description

Rubislaw Store, located at 32-34 Queen's Road in Aberdeen, consists of two distinct buildings from different periods.

32 Queen's Road is a traditional villa built in the mid to late 19th century, with 20th century additions and alterations. It is a two-storey, three-bay structure with a rectangular plan, constructed from tooled coursed grey granite. The rear features an Aberdeen bond and the margins are finely finished. The building has projecting cills, an eaves course, and overhanging eaves. The southeast elevation is near-symmetrical, with a central doorway on the ground floor that has a cornice with consoles, a modern timber door, and a fanlight above. To the right, there is a bipartite window, while the left flanking bay is adjacent to 34 Queen's Road. The first floor has regular fenestration with chamfered lintels. The northeast elevation is blank, while the northwest elevation features a round-arched stair window in the center, a window to the left on the ground floor, an infilled window opening to the right, and a small window above. The first floor has windows to the left and right. The southwest elevation is obscured by a 20th century addition. The building predominantly has 2-pane timber sash and case windows, a piended grey slate roof with lead ridges, coped wallhead stacks with octagonal cans, and cast-iron rainwater goods. The interior was not seen in 2000.

34 Queen's Road, built in 1837, is a single-storey former toll house that adjoins 32 Queen's Road to the north. It is also constructed from tooled coursed grey granite and features projecting cills. The southeast elevation has a single bay with a bowed end and a broad 6-light window in the center. The northeast elevation is blank, and the northwest elevation adjoins 32 Queen's Road. The southwest elevation is asymmetrical, with a single window opening to the left, a 2-light window to the right, and a deeply recessed boarded timber door to the outer right. The windows are timber-framed, and the roof is grey slate with a lead ridge. There is a coped wallhead stack to the northeast and a vent in the roof to the right, along with cast-iron rainwater goods. The interior has been remodelled as a restaurant in 2000.

The boundary walls consist of low coped walls to the southeast, topped with railings, and a brick-coped wall to the east.
