Description
19 Ferryhill Place, including the boundary wall and gatepiers, is a later 19th-century terrace consisting of 15 bays. It features 2-bay and 3-bay single-storey cottages with attics and basements, constructed from granite rubble with finely finished long and short dressings at the margins, except for No 19, which is made of granite ashlar. The design includes a base course, panelled aprons beneath the ground floor windows, pilastered doorways with cornices and consoles, panelled timber doors with letterbox fanlights, an eaves course, and canted dormers in the attic.
On the north (principal) elevation, Nos 17-23 display an asymmetrical design with irregular basements. The doorway to the right is accessed by stone steps, with a window to the left. No 17 has a pair of dormers in the attic, while the other cottages have a single dormer flanked by a modern skylight. No 25 is symmetrical with a 3-bay layout, featuring a central doorway flanked by single windows and two dormers in the attic. No 27 has a doorway on the left of the ground floor, a window to the right, a rectangular dormer to the left in the attic, and a canted dormer to the right.
The west elevation is gabled and blank. The south elevation has irregular door and window arrangements on the ground and first floors, with predominantly canted dormers in the attic, alongside some modern rectangular dormers. The east elevation is obscured by the adjoining terrace.
The windows are primarily 4-pane and 12-pane timber sash and case. The roof is covered with grey slate and features a lead ridge, coped stone skews with blocked skewputts, and coped granite gablehead and ridge stacks with circular and octagonal cans. The property also has cast-iron rainwater goods.
The interiors were not seen in 1999. The gatepiers and boundary walls consist of low granite coped walls to the north, with square-plan piers and gatepiers topped with pyramidal caps, along with some railings. There are brick coped rubble walls dividing the northern gardens and at the rear.
