Description
This building is a mid-19th century terrace located at 18 Ferryhill Place in Aberdeen. It consists of 24 bays and features two-storey and attic houses, some of which have basements. The houses are constructed from coursed tooled granite, which is finely finished at the margins. Key architectural elements include a base course, projecting cills, pilastered doorways that are corniced and consoled, predominantly panelled timber doors with letterbox fanlights, an eaves course, and canted dormers, with exceptions at Nos 12 and 16.
On the south (principal) elevation, Nos 2, 4, and 18 are symmetrical, with a central doorway on the ground floor flanked by a single window on each side, with the windows at No 18 canted. Above, there are two windows on the first floor and a window in the centre bay of the first floor at No 18, along with two dormers in the attic. Nos 6, 8, and 10 are asymmetrical, featuring an off-centre doorway on the ground floor flanked by two windows, with two windows on the first floor of No 6 and one window in each bay of Nos 8 and 10, plus two dormers in the attic. Nos 12, 14, and 16 are also asymmetrical and consist of two bays, with a doorway to the right on the ground floor and a window to the left, canted towards Nos 12 and 14. Each bay has a window on the first floor and dormers in the attic, although Nos 12 and 16 have replacements.
The east elevation is asymmetrical and gabled, featuring a window on the ground and first floors of a curved wall on the outer left, with a single window on the ground and first floors of the outer right bay. The north elevation is also asymmetrical, showcasing a variety of door and window patterns, along with dormers and skylights in the attic. The west elevation is obscured by the adjoining terrace.
The terrace includes a variety of timber sash and case windows and has a grey slate roof with a lead ridge. Coped stone skews are present, with blocked skewputts, and there are coped granite gablehead and ridge stacks with circular and octagonal cans, along with cast-iron rainwater goods.
The interiors were not seen in 1999. The gatepiers and boundary walls consist of low coped granite walls enclosing gardens to the south and west, with ironwork railings and gates. There are brick and granite coped rubble boundary walls to the north.
