Description
2 Abbotsford Place, including the boundary wall, is a mid-19th century building constructed by Messrs Wilson & Johnston, with additional work completed between 1875 and 1877. It features a single storey and attic, comprising a 15-bay terrace alongside a 3-bay L-plan cottage to the north, with paired cottages of 2-bays and 3-bays making up the rest. The exterior is made of random rubble with ladder snecking, and it has finely finished tooled long and short dressings at the margins. The building includes a base course, pilastered timber doorways with cornices and consoles for Nos 4-7, and panelled timber doors for all except No 7. Eaves courses are present on all but Nos 1-3, and there are 3-light canted dormers in the attic.
The west elevation is near-symmetrical, with No 1 being asymmetrical. It has a central door with a stained glass letterbox fanlight, a window to the left with a dormer above, and a gabled bay to the right with windows on both floors. Nos 2 and 3 have doorways in the two centre bays, with skylights above, a modern feature in No 2, and flanking windows. Nos 4 and 5 also have doorways in the centre bays, a continuous canopy, and windows in the flanking bays, with four dormers in the attic. No 6 features a doorway to the right with a window to the left and two dormers above. No 7 has a doorway to the left, flanked by two windows on the right and two symmetrically placed windows in the attic.
The south elevation is gabled and blank, while the east elevation is predominantly not visible as of 1999, but has canted dormers in the attic. The north elevation is also gabled and blank. The windows are 4-pane timber sash and case, and the roof is covered with purple-grey slate and has a lead ridge. Coped granite skews are present, corniced on Nos 2 and 3, with octagonal and circular cans. The building includes cast-iron rainwater goods.
The interior was not seen in 1999. The boundary walls are low coped granite, topped with railings to the west of the terrace.
