Description

One and a half storey (+ semi basement)/ three-bay house on east side of Downshire Road. Identical to no 43 (HB16/26/074B) Artificial slate hipped roof with overhanging eaves, plain bargeboards and terracotta ridges. Gabled dormer to centre of front pitch and two cast iron skylights to rear. Ogee profiled metal rainwater goods to façade and semicircular to rear. Left and right bays of facade have bay windows with gabled roofs tied into front pitch. A stepped chimney rises from each side wall, their bases linked to the roof by small tiled gabled infill. Chimneys are painted wet dash with red brick coping. All walls are painted wet dash render, with a chamfered red brick basecourse. Ground falls to rear to provide semi-basement with brickwork walls. Three cement steps lead to main entrance in centre bay of front façade. Entrance consists of a recessed porch, with plain painted cheeks. Front door has three bottom panels and a glazed rectangular top panel with a diamond of coloured leaded glass. The bays to left and right of facade project forward and are identical; each contains a rectangular opening to front with concrete cill. Both openings contain four single-pane metal casement windows with leaded transom over each. All casements are set within a timber frame and transom lights have Art-Nouveau floral glazing. In gable above is a small fixed vertical leaded window. Rising from roof, directly above main entrance, is a gabled dormer with plain barge boards. The walls are dashed cement render with leaded cheeks. There are three metal casements, each with two paned leaded transoms. Left elevation walls are as façade with a projecting chimney breast with recessed central panel. To either side of breast are single window openings. Left contains a pair of metal framed casements, with plain transoms and painted concrete cill. To right is a single casement with leaded transom. Right elevation has similar walls and chimney breast. To left and right of breast are single metal casements; that to right has a leaded transom. Rear elevation is abutted to left by a two-storey flat roofed extension. There is a single garage door to basement right and three windows to ground floor. Those to left and right are single casements with plain transoms; middle one is two paned casement with plain transoms. Return walls are smooth rendered to basement and wet dashed to ground floor. Window to each floor of end wall, and another on left cheek at ground floor. Door on right cheek is accessed by a flight of concrete steps from yard which is enclosed by a high corrugated iron fence. Setting Boundary to Downshire Road is enclosed by wet dashed wall with concrete saddleback coping with pair of gates and smooth render pillars to left side.
