Killaresy Church, Lower Clay Road, Clay, Killinchy, Co. Down

The ruins of a small church, likely of late medieval origin (before 1600), are overgrown and situated approximately three miles north of Killyleagh, immediately south of the Lower Clay Road. The rectangular church plan measures roughly 25.5 metres by 7 metres, but the low-level remains of the walls are entirely covered in vegetation, obscuring their details. The church is surrounded by a graveyard containing headstones of various denominations, the earliest legible inscription dating from 1724. The graveyard is bounded by a high, random rubble wall along the roadside. The site was recorded as a "burial ground" on an Ordnance Survey map of 1834 and as "Killaresy Church (in ruins)" on a revised map of 1859. The church also functions as a monument.
