Methodist Church, Cloughmore Road, Rostrevor, Co.Down

This former Methodist church was built between 1900 and 1901 in Rostrevor, County Down, and dedicated to the memory of Reverend John Gilcriest, a local figure who promoted Methodism in the area. Following his death in 1899, his family and the congregation raised funds to construct the church, with the family contributing approximately half of the £850 construction cost. The design was by architect John Fawcett Gilcriest of Belfast, a relative of the Reverend. A matching Gothic-style hall was added to the rear of the church in 1907, designed by Samuel Wilson Reside of Newry. The church officially opened on 9 January 1901, following the laying of the foundation stone on 1 August 1900. The building closed around 2010 and was subsequently sold, being converted into a café/restaurant around 2015. This conversion involved the addition of a rear extension linking to the original hall. The listing includes the gates and railings.
