Description

Part of an extensive complex which also comprises the convent and chapel (HB16/28/054A), burial vault (HB16/28/054B), oratory (HB16/28/054C), school (HB16/28/054D) and wells (HB16/28/054F). This laundry is a separate building at the south-east corner of the main block. A one-storey/ three-bay building, orientated north-south. Pitched natural slate roof with raised verges coped with concrete and moulded kneeler stones. Raised rectangular ventilator towards north end of ridge. Ogee cast-iron gutters. Lined smooth cement rendered walls to raised base course. All openings have segmental heads and the windows have concrete cills. Double-leaf partly-glazed timber entrance door (with transom light over) to middle of east elevation. At left on this wall is a 6/6 sliding sash window. Projecting from wall at right is a two-stage chimney which rises above the eaves. There is a hearth at the base of its outside face. This served an abutting building, now gone. The south gable has a door at right, with transom over (now sheeted over). At left is a 6/6 sliding sash. The west elevation is blank and overgrown with vegetation. The north gable has a pair of top-opening metal-framed windows.
