Description
A single-span bridge carrying the Mall over a former millrace at the west end of O’Hagan St. The race itself is culverted, so there is only one parapet to the bridge, where the race flows into the Newry River. It comprises a shallow segmental arch and is of granite throughout. The spandrels and parapet of squared random rubble with hammer-dressed faces. The west face of the bridge is embellished with rusticated voussoirs. The parapet copings oversail and are of finely dressed granite. A similarly dressed chamfered string course runs across just above the crown of the arch. The parapets terminate in square projecting piers topped with finely-dressed shallow pyramidal caps. The middle section of the parapet breaks forward. This projection has a raised finely dressed and chamfered cap on which is mounted a cast-iron lamp standard (now without a light). Inscribed on the street-facing side of this cap is “O’Hagan Bridge/ Built A.D. 1874”.
