Description
A terrace of three houses aligned north-south on the east side of Mountain Road. No.28, at the south end, is HB16/03/009A, No.30 is HB16/03/009B, and No.32, at the north end, is HB16/03/009C. Because of the topography they appear to be two storey from the road, but are in fact three storey, the semi-basement being accessible from the rear. The present terrace is six opening wide and comprises two phases. The original building comprises the three openings at right. The three-opening wide block at left was subsequently added. At the same time, the left opening of the original house was amalgamated with the right hand opening of the addition to form what is now No.30. The two left openings of the addition form No.32. All roofs have pitched natural slate roofs, with overhangs to gables finished with plain bargeboards. Rendered chimneys on both exposed gables, and also on what was the left gable of the original house (before additions to north). Half-round plastic gutters. All walls are painted and rendered, with projecting eaves course to which is affixed shallow board Front elevation: For the purposes of describing the terrace, each phase is described as they each form a distinct architectural unit. In this case No 32 and part of No 30. (see also HB16/03/009A & HB16/03/009B.) The walls are lined smooth render. Left hand block (No.32 and part of No.30) Three bays (here three openings) wide - No.32 occupies left two bays, and No.30 the right bay. Entrance door to no.32 is in middle bay of this block. Comprises a glazed multi-pane timber door with transom light over. Set into a shallow porch detailed as No.30. To its left is a 2/2 sash, detailed as before. There are two 2/2 sashes in line at first floor. Left of No.32 is a set of decorative wrought-iron carriage gates c.1.5m high to a lane serving all three houses. The left gable of No.32 is roughcast rendered. Two 1/1 sliding sashes to first floor, symmetrically arranged about chimney. Rear elevation: The division into three houses is more evident on this elevation. No.32 At basement left is a modern fully glazed door with sidelight, to right of which is a 2/2 sash. At first and at second floors are two 2/2 sashes, in line with each other and with ground floor openings.
