Pump behind house, 32 Killyneedan Road, Sandholes, Cookstown, Co. Tyrone

This is a rare example of a domestic water pump, dating from approximately 1900 to 1919. It is situated in a traditional farmyard, adjacent to the vernacular farmhouse it originally served. The pump is a wall-mounted lever-operated closed-head design. Cast into its side are the markings "3" – referring to the 3-inch diameter of the bucket barrel – and a flag, along with the manufacturer's details: Lee Howl & Co. Tipton, England, and "Made in England." The pump is located at the rear of the farmhouse. A well is depicted on Ordnance Survey maps from 1906 and 1935 (reference PRONI OS 10/6/38/14/1 and 2). The pump possesses industrial archaeological interest, demonstrating a time when readily accessible tap water was unavailable. It retains its operational status.
