Description

Detached brick barn style Church of Ireland church, dated 1954 and constructed to designs by A.F. Lucy, located west side of Station Road. Single cell nave with belfry to north east corner, linked by flat roofed porch. Pitched pantile roof, deep overhanging uPVC boxed eaves, fascia and gutter; masonry Celtic crosses to gable ends. Walling is stretcher bonded brown brick. Windows are triple round-arched-headed with stained glass and projecting cast-concrete surrounds. Principal east elevation is three windows wide with porch and belfry to north end. Each window set in projecting bay with extreme left bay extended to contain internal chancel; oculus located to exposed section of wall above lower link block. Belfry is double height with pitched roof and overhanging eaves; defined by an offset full-height double-rebated opening rising above main entrance and containing bronze bell; wider left pier has projecting bricks at intervals arranged in a cross motif . Entrance consists of double-leaf panelled mahogany doors with bronze knobs set in projecting concrete surround surmounted by frieze inscribed ‘Hallowed be thy name’. Link block has full-height multi-light windows to each cheek, having Victorian stained glass insets. South gable has round-headed stained glass Venetian style window contained within central projection having clock to apex. West elevation abutted by modern extension of little interest; the exposed chancel end is blank. North gable has round-headed stained glass window with brick voussoirs contained within slightly projecting bay. Occupying a prominent roadside setting with grassed area to east, tarmac parking area to north end. Bounded to road by quadrant steel railings on low plinth wall terminated by brick piers; accessed by mild steel double gates.
