Description

Three-storey, two-bay Victorian mid-terrace townhouse built around 1900. The building has a square plan form with a large two-storey rectangular rear return. It is located off Belsize Road, north of Lisburn town centre, directly adjacent to Wallace Park.

The roof is natural slate with leaded hips and crested clay ridge tiles. A large stucco cavetto cornice at eaves level, painted white, runs across the front elevation with a cast-iron ogee moulded gutter. The rear has a semi-circular cast-iron gutter. Box section uPVC downpipes, shared with the adjoining owner, serve the front elevation. A large double-width brick chimney stack, shared with the adjoining owner, straddles the ridge line and carries twelve clay pots.

The walls are constructed in red brick laid in Flemish bond with a projecting brick plinth. The rear return changes to English Garden Wall bond. The windows are single-glazed timber 1/1 sliding sash with horns, painted white and fitted with large rectangular sandstone cills. Window openings are spanned by 1½ brick flat arches topped with brick keyblocks featuring moulded cornice detail.

The principal elevation faces south and is asymmetrically arranged. The front door occupies the left-hand bay, accessed by two stone steps. It is a timber door with four bolection moulded, raised-and-pointed panels and a rectangular fixed light above. Plain pilasters flank the door, decorated at cornice level with egg-and-dart moulding and rising to large foliated console brackets that support a cornice above.

The right-hand bay contains a two-storey canted bay with a shallow pitched leaded roof. A terracotta string course and decorative panels run at first-floor level, with a terracotta eaves course and corbel brick above. A single window sits directly above the door, with two equally spaced windows at second-floor level. The first-floor windows have projected brick detailing beneath the cills. The second-floor window heads are embedded into the large cornice detail at eaves level.

The left elevation is built against the adjoining property, 1 Parkmount.

The rear elevation is asymmetrically arranged. A large hipped two-storey return projects northwards from the right-hand bay, overlooking a long narrow yard. The ground floor features a modern timber double door with cement rendered surround, created from alterations to an existing window. At first floor there is a single window with two uniformly arranged diminished windows at second floor; all have reduced detailing. The rear chimney, which serves both this property and the adjoining building, is located to the right over the ridge line and has had alterations to its upper brick courses. uPVC rainwater goods are present with a tall cast-iron soil and vent pipe extending well above eaves level. A metal-framed roof light sits to the right of the chimney stack.

A single-storey lean-to extension projects northwards, with a brick wall enclosing the yard. An additional small lean-to coal bunker, shared with the adjoining property, is located to the left.

The right elevation is built against the adjoining property, 3 Parkmount.

The building directly overlooks the large mature trees and open green space of the adjacent Wallace Park and Lisburn cricket ground. Matching terrace blocks of similar style and quality stand to either side. The small front garden lies beyond a vehicular access point located directly in front of the terrace. The rear has further vehicular access with modern dwellings beyond.
