Description

Trinity Presbyterian Church Hall is a double-height Gothic church hall built around 1895, located on the south side of John Street in Omagh. It forms part of a distinct group with Trinity Presbyterian Church (built 1856) and the former sexton's house. The hall was designed to closely match the church's architectural character, and it retains fine proportions with simple planning and detailing largely intact.

The main hall is rectangular on plan and faces west with its gable to the street. The pitched natural slate roof features perforated crested blue and black clay ridge tiles with chamfered stone verges and ogee cast-iron gutters carried on chamfered stone corbels. The walling is squared and snecked basalt with dressed sandstone quoins. Windows are Gothic stained glass casements with flush chamfered sandstone surrounds.

The principal north gable is symmetrical, with a central depressed pointed arch-headed varnished timber double-leaf door with wrought-iron strap hinges. Above this is a triple lancet window, flanked on each side by a depressed pointed arch-headed window. The gable apex features a cusped blind oculus surmounted by a timber louvred trefoil with wrought-iron finial. The east elevation is four windows wide and is abutted to the right by the former sexton's house, which has roughcast walling. The west elevation mirrors the principal gable's detailing across five window openings.

The former sexton's house was historically linked internally to the hall via a first-floor gallery and passage (now blocked) that led to a Sunday school room. A rectangular two-storey addition with four openings wide was added facing west in 1957, with flat-roofed modern extensions of no architectural interest subsequently added to the south and east.

The building sits at the base of elevated church grounds with a paved channel to the west accessed by stone stairs flanked by splayed stone railings. It is set back from John Street by pavement to the north, with the former sexton's house patio to the east and the church parking lot to the south.

The hall first appears on the third edition Ordnance Survey map of 1905–6. Valuation records identify it as a "lecture hall" added in 1895 to the Committee of the second Presbyterian Meeting House, valued at £23. According to local historical sources, the church hall opened on 3 April 1894 with a grand concert and was subsequently used extensively by church organisations for meetings and drama rehearsals. During the Second World War, the Army requisitioned the hall for administrative purposes.
