Former house beside, 27 Blackhill Road, Castlederg, Co. Tyrone, BT81 7RE

A single storey, three-bay, direct entry building originating as a two-bay house that had been extended to the north-east by the addition of a bedroom that is flanked by a shed constructed of corrugated iron sheeting. The left-hand (south-west) compartment has been converted for storage use. The building, that faces south-east is situated on the north-west side of a secondary road that travels in a south-westerly direction for about one and a half miles from the Drumquin / Castlederg road about three miles from the latter town. The wall construction is of random rubble stone squared at the extremities. The front elevation and the gables are whitened and at the rear the stone facing including the outshot is exposed. The front elevation has a black base. The lower part of the south-west gable is rendered. The roof is covered with corrugated iron. A corrugated Perspex panel has been inset into the front roof slope over the kitchen and small sheets of corrugated iron indicate the position of the former chimneystack. All of the external doors are of corrugated iron construction, paired to give access to the left-hand storage bay and single to the other compartments. The entrance to the former kitchen is protected by a canted-sided windbreak porch roofed with a single slab of stone. To the right of the porch a glassless metal-framed window is sealed externally by a shutter constructed of vertical timber planks and the sill is of stone of traditional depth. The lintel is of timber.
