35/37 Main Street, Limavady, Co Londonderry, BT49 OEP

This building on Main Street, Limavady, was originally constructed in the mid-19th century. It was a three-storey building with rendered walls and a slated roof, originally featuring a facade three windows wide. The upper windows were double-hung sashes with full astragals, while the ground floor windows were also double-hung sashes. An entrance was set within a segmental arched opening flanked by unfluted Doric columns rising to a decorated frieze and cornice. The fanlight above the door was glazed with hooked and decorative astragals. The building was part of a terrace and originally noted for its doorways, although the other buildings in the terrace had been altered.

The building was delisted from the historic register in March 1989, following a review by the Historic Buildings Council. The reasoning was that the original hope of using the quality of this building to improve the overall standard of the terrace had not been realised, and instead the building had been altered to a lower standard reflecting those of its less well-maintained neighbours. The original building was subsequently demolished and replaced in 1995/6 with a new building designed by GM Design of Coleraine. Primary source mapping records from 1831, 1848, 1895, and 1907 documenting the area are held at the Public Record Office of Northern Ireland (PRONI), alongside valuation records. The building was formerly used as a shop and is now demolished.
