Description

This is a four-storey Georgian town house, centrally located in a block of three buildings within Limavady. The house was constructed in the early 19th century, as shown on an Ordnance Survey Map from 1831. While the front elevation retains its original appearance, with the exception of a modern shopfront, internal alterations and changes to the rear have significantly reduced the historic character.

The house is built of brick, with a rendered ground floor. It has a slate roof, cast iron rainwater goods, and prominent brick chimneys topped with small terracotta pots. Original Georgian sash windows are present, with twelve panes on the first and second floors, nine panes on the third, and 20th-century casement windows on the ground floor. Two small casement windows, set within a stone tile facade, are located above street level on the ground floor. A door with a plain rectangular fanlight leads up three concrete steps to the south-west end of the front elevation. The rear window openings lack uniformity, with modern casement windows installed. A small return projection rises three storeys and contains a doorway at its base. A small brick lean-to outbuilding is situated in the yard, running perpendicular to the main house. Beyond a rear wall is a former stable block, now renovated as a separate dwelling.

Maps indicate significant changes over time. In 1831, the building was numbered 31 and included a rear outbuilding. By 1848, the number changed to 92, and a path led to a square plot at the rear, also numbered 92. An outbuilding at the back return is documented for the first time on a map from 1907. The 1971 Ordnance Survey map numbers the property as 18, indicating its then use as a branch of the Belfast Savings Bank, which also carried out alterations to the street frontage. The building was later occupied by Loughery and Agnew architects from the early 1980s until 1992, and is currently occupied by F G McGuigan Accountants.
