Hollow Bridge, Near Altmover Road, Adjacent to Mission Hall, Dungiven, Co Londonderry, BT47

This is a late 18th century sandstone bridge, situated near Altmover Road and adjacent to Mission Hall in Dungiven, County Londonderry. Known locally as the Hollow Bridge, it spans the Altmover Burn at the lower end of Altmover Glen. The bridge is a single semi-circular arch, constructed from local sandstone. It measures approximately 4½ metres in span with a carriageway of 3.6 metres, lacking parapets. The stonework is characterized by irregular voissoirs (wedge-shaped stones) that form a sharp edge to the intrados (the inner curve of the arch).

The bridge is located on the former route of the Altmover Road, which is now a laneway and partially overgrown. Downstream of the arch, there are signs of possible collapse and a wide lateral crack on the intrados. The bridge is shown on an Ordnance Survey map of 1832, and the road's routing is depicted as altered on a revised map from 1856. It is not mentioned in the Ordnance Survey Memoirs. The construction demonstrates characteristics of early, narrow bridge designs, similar to others that remain in good repair. Although it possesses industrial archaeological interest, it is not considered suitable for formal listing.
