Description
This is a footbridge spanning the Bush River, built between 1840 and 1859. Originally constructed of timber planks with timber balustrades, the bridge initially featured four piers. Three piers were built using blackstone rubble, one is of concrete and substantially reduced in size. A triangular, unequal-sided pier rises from the upstream end of the second pier from the east side. In 1995, a new timber footbridge was constructed upon the original stone piers. A plaque affixed to the bridge identifies it as “The Three Quarter bridge,” and credits its replacement by the 5th Battalion of the Royal Irish Regiment; it was officially opened by Cllr Robert McIlroy, Chairman of Moyle District Council on 1st May 1995. The bridge remains in use. The record was initially misfiled and is being renumbered.
