Description

3 Ann Street is a simple, two-storey late 19th-century terrace house built in a modest Victorian style. While it does not possess significant architectural or historic interest, it is located within a conservation area.

The house is one bay wide and two stories high. The ground floor features a four-panel entrance door with a plain rectangular fanlight. To the left of the door is a single, double-hung sliding sash window with two panes, featuring a painted sandstone cill. At the first floor, there is a single, double-hung sliding sash window with two panes. This window is slightly shorter but wider than the ground floor window and has a painted moulded plaster architrave, supported by two moulded corbels. The exterior walls are smooth, lined, and painted, with painted quoins on one side. A shared half-round metal gutter and downpipe are present. The roof is natural slate with plain ridge tiles. A shared chimney is also present, connecting to number 1 Ann Street. A cement barge connects the roof to number 1 Ann Street.

The rear of the property has single windows on each floor level, including a basement-level door. These rear windows are modern inserts. A half-round metal gutter with a shared downpipe is also present on this elevation. The rear walls are roughcast rendered and unpainted and have a natural slate roof with plain ridge tiles.

The building is a narrow fronted terrace house, contemporary with and similar to number 5 Ann Street, and both houses share a long, narrow rear yard. It was probably rebuilt around the end of the 19th century. Some details are characteristic of the work of Dallat, a builder who constructed a number of houses on Ann Street and Quay Road around that time.
