Pump, opposite 73 Edenderry Village, Edenderry, Beflast

This is a well-preserved example of a cow-tailed water pump, likely dating from between 1900 and 1919. It stands in a prominent roadside location opposite a terrace of houses that were built for mill workers. The pump is enhanced by a surrounding alcove of walling and railings.

The pump has a closed head lever, a plain spirally decorated column, and a fluted cap topped with an acorn finial. It was not recorded on the 1901 Ordnance Survey map, but appears on maps from 1919 and 1930. According to a local informant, the pump was erected by John Shaw Brown, the mill owner.
