Bridge, Black Bog Road, Dromore, Co Down, BT25

This is an early 19th century, possibly late 18th century, triple-arch road bridge constructed of rubble masonry, spanning the River Lagan. The bridge is considered a good, original example of its type, reflecting the development of infrastructure in the area. It carries a minor road and is slightly skewed in its alignment. The bridge is built throughout of random rubble masonry, with cutwaters at both ends of the piers rising to just above the arch spring level. The arches are semicircular, constructed with split stone voussoirs. The right-hand arch is dry under normal conditions, while the central arch is higher and wider than the others. Parapets terminate in projecting square piers. A square blind niche is located in the middle of the road face of the upstream parapet. Grass verges sit between the parapets and the carriageway. Metal brackets, remnants of a water pipe, are visible across the upstream (eastern) face. The bridge deck is humped. The bridge is shown on Ordnance Survey maps from 1833 onwards and is considered to be of industrial archaeological interest due to its age and authenticity. It is surrounded by fields.
