Description

A well-proportioned single storey, double pile vernacular dwelling set on the northern edge of Kearney Village, approximately three miles east of Portaferry. The front portion of the house is probably pre-1834, with the remainder added post-1860, likely around 1870. The building is recorded on Ordnance Survey maps of 1834 and 1860, with the rear section appearing on the 1860 map onwards. The property underwent complete renovation around 1992.

The front south-east facade is asymmetrical, with a timber and glazed door positioned slightly to the left of centre. A sash window with Georgian panes stands to the left of the door, with a matching window to the right. All windows have smooth cement surrounds. The south-west gable end displays a sash window with Georgian panes to the right of the front gable, with a small lean-to extension to the west of the rear gable. The north-east gable end similarly has a sash window with Georgian panes to the right of the front gable, and a matching window to the left on the rear gable. The rear facade features a three-sided flat-roofed bay with many Georgian-like panes. Two smaller sash windows matching those on the front sit to the right of the bay, with a four-pane window at the far right serving the lean-to.

The main house is roofed with gabled pitched roofs covered in Bangor blue slates, with stone parapets and four rendered chimney stacks, one positioned at each gable. The entire exterior is finished in rough cast render and painted. The gutters and downspouts are a mixture of cast iron and PVC. A low rendered wall encloses the front garden.

The building has intrinsic architectural value and also possesses group value as part of the wider collection of listed buildings in Kearney Village.
