Redburn Portico, 221 Old Holywood Road, Holywood, Co Down, BT18 9QS

The Redburn Portico was a mid-19th century structure originally attached to Redburn House. It has since been demolished, and a care home now occupies the site. The portico was constructed of dressed sandstone and measured approximately 30 feet wide. It was recessed within the west front of Redburn House, which is now ruinous and derelict. The portico featured four square columns with antae incorporated into the side walls, alongside an entablature. A central projecting pediment was supported by two Ionic, panelled columns and featured a decorative frieze and an oval shield at its apex. The square columns, and those supporting the pediment, sat upon a base wall with forward-projecting columns that framed an approach with eight steps leading to the upper floor of the portico. The rear wall of the portico originally contained two window openings and a central doorway. The stonework of the portico was generally in fair condition but exhibited some minor damage to the cornice.
