Description
Brookfield Cottage is a house dating from 1840 to 1859. It appears on the Ordnance Survey map of 1857. The building is a one-and-a-half-storey, three-bay house with significant extensions to the rear. The main entrance faces east. The roof is gabled and slated, with yellow brick chimneys. The walls are rendered with a pebble dash finish, featuring painted stone quoins and a rendered plinth. Windows are rectangular PVC fixed lights with top-hung vents and simulated margin lights. The main entrance features a rectangular, four-panel timber door with three-pane sidelights and a fanlight, set within an elliptically arched surround with plain pilasters. Four granite steps lead to the entrance, flanked by concrete extensions. The rainwater goods are PVC. Rear extensions are in white painted roughcast with smooth rendered quoins. A modern PVC conservatory has been added to the west side of the rear return. The house stands facing the main road, set back within its own grounds, with a lawn to the front. The approach is via a gateway composed of a pair of octagonal stone piers topped with ogee shaped caps and a pair of decorative wrought iron gates, which appear to be modern. The gateway is recessed from the main road by low, pebble-dashed curving screen walls, terminating in small square piers. The front boundary is defined by a hedge.
