Description
Castle Farmhouse is a detached farmhouse dated 1687, constructed from Cary stone ashlar, with an extension made of cut and squared work and Doulting stone dressings. The building features a thatched roof with a coped north gable and a plain south gable, along with brick end and intermediate chimney stacks.
The farmhouse is two stories high and has four bays, with bays three and four likely being part of an early 18th-century extension. It has a high chamfered plinth, while the lower bays one and two contain four-light hollow chamfered mullioned windows with square labels. Above these are three-light early timber casements with ovolo mouldings and timber lintels, and between them is a plaque with a moulded hood that reads "M/IA/1687." To the right of bay two, still within the ashlar portion, is a plain doorway with a timber lintel and a studded boarded door featuring cover-strips at the joints. Bays three and four have three-light chamfered timber frame windows under chamfered timber lintels, with one upper light still retaining rectangular leaded panes. There is a lean-to with a hipped slate roof against the north gable and a later extension at the rear. The interior has not been seen.
