Description
No. 6 St Andrew Street is a house in a row, dating from the late 18th century, with some alterations from the mid-19th century. The building is rendered and colourwashed, with a rubble rear wing, a slate roof, and brick stacks. The front range features two storeys and an attic, with two bays. Above the four-pane sashes in plain reveals, there is a hipped dormer with a three-light casement. The ground floor has a 19th-century nine-panel door with a transom light to the right, and a panelled pilaster at the left end. A coved cornice runs the full width of the building and returns to the plain gable end on the right. The interior has not been inspected. The site has been occupied since at least the 13th century, when the street was known as Byestewel. This property was likely rebuilt around the same time as Nos 4 and 5, with which it shares some architectural details, and is included for its group value.
