Description

The buildings located approximately 10 metres east of Cockmoor Hall include a threshing barn with a granary above, surrounded by ranges of stables, byres, cart-sheds, and a carriage-shed. The barn dates from the late 18th century, while the other buildings are from the early 19th century. They are constructed from coursed sandstone rubble with herringbone-tooled quoins and feature pantile roofs, forming three sides of a yard.

The barn is two storeys high with a five-bay front and quoins. There are plank doors on the left and right of the centre, with the right door now blocked in the lower half. The loft has shuttered square pitching holes on the left and centre, while a similar hole on the right has been altered to create a door with a bordered, tooled lintel, accessed by stone steps. The remaining openings have flat arches, and the barn has coped gables and shaped kneelers.

Inside, the barn has a double threshing floor and features braced king-post roof trusses. The stable range to the left is one and a half storeys tall, with its gable end facing the street and quoins. It has square openings with stone sills on the ground floor and loft, along with a quoined, coped gable and plain kneeler. The carriage-shed range to the right is also one and a half storeys, with a gable end on the street and quoins. It includes a quoined carriage opening with a segmental arch made of voussoirs and a keystone, as well as a quoined square pitching hole above with a stone sill and wedge lintel, and a quoined, coped gable with plain kneelers.
