Description

30 and 30a Church Hill are a pair of mid-19th century buildings on Church Hill in Selby. The buildings are constructed of brown brick with a pitched, modern pantile roof. They have three storeys and two bays. The windows are flush-framed sashes with glazing bars, and there is a contemporary shop front featuring scrolled consoles to the fascia.

Church Hill historically served as an important route from the east into Selby town centre, curving away from Ousegate, the town's historic riverfront street. The property's faceted front elevation reflects this curve. An 1848 map indicates a narrow courtyard existed to the rear, accessible via a passageway to the left of the shop front. It was possibly connected to Richardson’s Court, within a densely populated area of housing and small warehouses.
