Description
The Education Department of North Yorkshire County Council, located at 16 Water Street, is a former chapel built in 1864 in a Victorian classical style. The building is constructed of ashlar and stands two stories tall. The central pedimented section features two Ionic columns and two pilasters, with three round-arched openings on the ground floor and three round-arched windows above, all adorned with moulded arches and keystones. The pediment is supported by console brackets. The side wings have segmental arched windows on the ground floor and round-arched windows on the upper floor, with pilaster quoins and a top cornice. There are six windows on the side facades.
